Okay winter oat was developed and released by theOklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station in 1978. Okay resulted from the cross Chilocco X Ora. This cross was made for the
purpose of combining the winterhardiness and high test weight of Chilocco with the
short, strong straw and large grain of Ora.
Okay is a high yielding winter oat with good winterhardiness and lodging resistance.
It is medium in height and maturity, and has some tolerance to barley yellow dwarf
virus.
The early growth is semi-prostrate to slightly up-right. Kernals are small, awnless,
and plump.
