Research Focus

Studies at the station include animal waste management, crop residue management, A pivot irrigation system in the field.forage crops, soil fertility, weed control, irrigation problems, and small grains development. The OSU departments of Plant & Soil Sciences, Entomology & Plant Pathology, Horticulture & Landscape Architecture, Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering and USDA-Agricultural Research Service all conduct studies at this station.

 

Size and Location

The Center consists of 1000 acres and 500 irrigated acres under four center pivot irrigation systems, a 17 acre non-irrigated strip that will be well suited for surface drip irrigations in the future, and 500 acres of native grass and is operated by the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station. Experiments are geared toward dry-land and irrigated production.

 

The McCaull Research & Demonstration Farm has two locations.

Soil

Soils at this location are representative of the Panhandle of Oklahoma with Gruver Clay loam being the major soil series. These soils are highly productive, well drained, deep and moderately slowly permeable. The Gruver Clay loam occurs on nearly level to very gently sloping eolian plains. Slopes range from 0 to 3 percent.
